Today, Jon Carroll, a columnist with the Chronicle, featured an Iraqi Blog called Baghdad is Burning. According to the author, she is "female, Iraqi and 24. I survived the war. That's all you need to know. It's all that matters these days anyway."
The Blog offers amazing insight into the state of Iraq right now. It's amazing -- if it's true. That's the wonder of the Internet. I assume Riverbend is a real Iraqi 24 year old female, but there is no way of knowing. It's just a Blog. Some astute 16 year old in South Bend, Indiana could be posting from the comfort of his bedroom. Regardless, it presents an important perspective.
"This war started out a war on WMD. When those were not found, and proof was flimsy at best, it turned suddenly into a “War against Terrorism”. When links couldn’t be made to Al-Qaeda or Osama Bin Laden (besides on Fox and in Bush’s head), it turned into a “Liberation”. Call it whatever you want- to me it’s an occupation."
